Surprises
My life doesn't have a lot of plot twists. In fact, saying that my life has any plot at all is an exaggeration. If a gangster hired someone to follow me, they'd be disappointed, because I rarely leave my home. You get the picture, right? Anyway, today something happened that I utterly did not expect. (It's gonna be a letdown now, after all this buildup. Sorry.)
First, some background: One of the reasons why my ex and I broke up was that I really wanted him to have a relationship with my family--come over for dinner occasionally, etc--and he really did not want that. I don't fault him for it, but as I've said a bunch of times to various people, my goal is to be able to share my whole life with someone. My parents and sister (and pets!) are a big part of my life. Recently, when he and I met up to talk about the possibility of getting back together, this was one of the issues we discussed. Our conclusion was that we're looking for different things and should go separate ways.
HOWEVER, today he texted me to say that he'd changed his mind about meeting my family. (I think what he actually wrote was, "I'm ready to surrender." Yikes.) That was the unexpected event. Not that he never changes his mind, but this was a big thing between us. To be honest, it means a lot to me that he cares enough to brave the potential awkwardness of ~family dinner~. As someone who gets very anxious about some social situations, I can totally understand wanting to forgo engaging with unfamiliar people who might disapprove of you. But my position has always been that my parents will love him once they get to know him. After all, they love me, and he's just as big of a cuddly goofball as I am!
This does put me in an awkward position re: the guy with a kid (who needs some better identifier). But I'm not going to make any radical decisions until I see how Sunday dinner goes, and possibly until I talk things over with my therapist on Monday.
I won this skirt in a weekly giveaway on Bon Marche Couture. I'm pretty delighted about it, both because winning things is always fun and because this is a particularly great piece. At first glance it seems basic, but the cut is very flattering, and the fastening mechanism is really cool, although not in a way that's easy to explain or show online. You'll just have to take my word for it. Anyway, Bon Marche Couture is currently running a giveaway for a chunky yellow necklace (and some rainbow earrings). Just click on either of the next two pictures to be taken to the giveaway post--it doesn't end until midnight!

Hooray plot twists! Well, hooray for this one because it sounds like the outcome has a good possibility of being positive. I hope the meeting of the parents goes well.
ReplyDeleteAlso I really like your corduroy skirt. There's just something about corduroy. Maybe how delightfully soft it is?
Thank you, Jamie! And yeah, corduroy rocks. I'd sorta forgotten how great it is.
DeleteBoundaries are a good thing for a gal to have. You also look seriously lovely in springtime florals.
ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth, and thank you!
DeleteWhen I saw the picture on UBC, I thought, "Is that skirt corduroy?" And then when I saw the full picture here I couldn't wait to tell you that I love the skirt. Until I read that you won it! AWESOME! What could be better than an amazing skirt?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing skirt for FREE!!!! (Oh, and yeah for the life plot-twist!)
Freeee! That's the best part! haha :)
DeleteAwesome skirt is awesome :-)
ReplyDeleteBit odd that your ex never used to want anything to do with your family! I knew a rogue-assassin like that once...
;-)
Hahaha, a rogue assassin, huh? I'll tell him that =P
DeleteIt's good that you are going to talk it over with your therapist, since having a non-judging person can be a good resource to have when you're making those kinds of decisions. Some people do better on their own, but I always like to ask for advice.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it's too cool that you won the skirt! I've entered a few giveaways here and there, but have yet to win anything! *crosses fingers*
I'll cross my fingers too! And yeah, I really appreciate having that neutral third party.
DeleteI love that skirt so much! You lucky duck! :D
