Obviously today was not about ~high fashion~ but rather about frumpy comfort. A couple of weeks ago I wore this sweater on a date with X, and he couldn't bear to let me enter his favorite fancy French bistro in such ratty attire, a concern that didn't occur to me in the slightest. Luckily I also brought a coat, or I would have frozen during dinner. Dear restaurants: you are going above and beyond with the air conditioning.

Sometimes I wonder whether I should only share the outfits that I really like, but Fashion Fragile has always been a documentary blog (as opposed to an inspirational one). It's about me as a person who wears clothes, and what I experience while wearing them, rather than about the "right" way to wear clothes or even an admirable way to wear them. I'm just muddling through. It doesn't exactly surprise me that people are interested, because I'm interested in the mundane details of my online friends' lives, but I am grateful that I can write about myself and feel heard, like my constant self-dwelling has a point.

Oh, one more thing: I try to resist naming posts after angsty lyrics, but "Marvins Room" conquered me. Darn you, Drake.

  1. That's what I like about your blog - you're sharing your life, basically. I feel like I get to really see some of who you are! And it's great! (Thanks for sharing the comfort outfits, too!) It can be kind of a pain to keep up with looking dressed for success all the time (or dressed down for a crown... what the hell am I even talking about!?)... this is what happens when you write a comment a little sleep deprived.

    1. I don't think I've ever heard the phrase 'dressed down for a crown' but now that I have, I totally want to know what that post would look like. So curious!

    2. Seconding Karen. That's a great phrase. Thank you Danielle!

  2. Good grief. You let us see your new jammies. (which were awesome!) Life isn't always perfectly posh all the time with just the right lighting or setting (and sometimes it rains!), but thankfully you let us have a peek anyway. And for that you are awesome. Plus that sweater looks totally snuggleable. Frumpy-comfy wins.

  3. Your sweater looks so snuggly and comfy! (not frumpy at all). :-D

I spend most of my life in snuggly/comfy clothes, actually. They lend themselves so well to writing thesis, warming up or down from ballet, and taking data off the laser at 2am.

Seriously, I will wear this up and down the main shopping street of the biggest city in NZ on the way to and from ballet, and eat lunch in cafes afterwards:

(and yes, my one is in the Mulberry shade)

I have to admit, when I go out to restaurants I like to dress up (just for the excuse to wear sparkly things), but I think so long as you wear it with confidence and it isn't ratty in the sense of being infested with vampire rats, then most outfits are usually fine in restaurants.

    1. THAT JUMPSUIT LOOKS SO COMFY! I basically have the same attitude about restaurants.

    2. The jumpsuit is ridiculously comfy. On the outside, it's terrycloth, on the inside, it's sort of fleecy. *sigh* :-)

A girl at ballet looked at me once in horror and was like 'You're going to wear *that* down Queen Street?!?!!?'. I was sorely tempted to point to her face and exclaim the same, but I try not to give into my baser urges and just said 'Of course!' and walked on.

    3. It's astounding how rude people can be! You weren't walking on Queen Street, you were walking on the high road ;)

  4. That sweater looks so cozy! It actually looks similar to the one I throw on as soon as I get home from work and just need to be comfy. I like your idea of showing what you wear on a day to day basis and not just the fancy stuff!

    1. Thank you! That's exactly the kind of sweater it is :)

  5. I like that you post your real outfits and what you wear on an everyday basis. I don't photograph all of my outfits because I hardly see the sun during the week anymore. Plus sometimes I re-wear outfits and I don't need to post the same thing twice. Not all posts have to be super fancy and special though! I like seeing what's real.

P.S. I definitely agree about the air conditioning. It's so cold indoors!
