Spano Vintage: Muted Palette

My natural tendency is to pick BRIGHT colors whenever possible. However, blogs like JennifHsieh and Larkspur have helped me develop a taste for neutral combinations (although I'm still doubtful about "nude" lipstick). Therefore, when looking through the understated collection at Spano Vintage, I relished all the beige and soft rose. The shop came to my attention via this $40 giveaway, which is still open, so go enter!

  1. I'm in love with the second dress! Also the lace up clog/bowling shoes are kind of the most awesome shoes ever. I am definitely checking them out!

    1. Don't they look comfy? I adore that second dress too!

  2. Let's see... I'll have the last dress, and the archaeologist one, and the chequered one next to that one... :-D

Really, anything except the first one - as much as I like the '20s/'30s, we have school uniforms all the way through in this country, and it looks exactly like one :-P

I still haven't found a nude listick that appealed to me. I take 'nude' to mean 'MLBB', and it's never steered me wrong. Most nude listicks are either too brown for me, or they have too much white pigment in them, which means they remind me of cricketers wearing zinc on their lips.

    1. I love the phrase "archaeologist dress"! I guess I feel like nude lipsticks make my mouth disappear, and I can't figure out why I'm supposed to want that.

  3. Sonya, you've found a real gem in the crazy cave that is Etsy! (There are all kind of gems in there, but this one really stands out to me.)
I'm the opposite when it comes to picking out clothes! I try not to pick anything too bright, but then my closet ends up looking really dull. I said this to Marlen and now I am going to say it to you; I am going to have an imaginary closet party at my place. You guys are invited. Bring your closets, too!

  4. I'm a big natural fibers/natural dyes girl. And I've done a lot of kettle dying, which is a magical process. Sometimes I find myself turned off by bright garish colors in favor of natural tones. A lot of the gems you chose to showcase aren't just lovely because of their colors, but they have textural quality. It's hard to get amazing texture from polyesther, but this is my bias.

    1. I completely agree with you, actually. The older I get, the more picky I am about fabric quality. I'm gonna look into kettle dying, because I like magic!

    2. Use procion dyes if you're just starting out. You can buy a tiny bottle of powder and be happy for a long time playing with color (red + blue= purple style) rather than investing in a more serious or complex dye set up (only to discover you don't like it).
