Snapshotter
Skip the following paragraph if you don't care about camera equipment/settings and photo editing.
I am in love with this new 50mm lens that my dad bought. It's all focus-y and junk! I hate having to deal with the technical aspects of photography--I shoot in JPEG and mostly edit with Microsoft Picture Manager, to give you an idea--but, that said, Alissa of The Adored Life did three basic tutorials that are helpful if you want to shoot in RAW and use Photoshop (or a free alternative like Artweaver, which I've been playing with for years): "Blogger Photo Basics", "How To Take Better Blog Photos", and "How To Edit Better Blog Photos". (I don't agree with all of the tips; YMMV.) I also highly recommend Froggie's Lightroom for general photographic shenanigans and advice. If you don't have a DSLR those links will be less relevant, but here are two guides for using regular cameras to capture great shots: "Get the Most from Your Point-and-Shoot Camera" and "Using compact cameras to take DSLR quality images".
Anyway, the first thing I did this morning was make a batch of Marlen's pumpkin spice cookies. That set the tone for the rest of the day.
I told my sister that I might wear this exact outfit to a Valentine's dinner over the weekend, and she was like, "Not with those leggings!" Apparently they make the outfit less "cute and sexy". I've pretty much accepted that seduction is not my sartorial MO, but I've gotta stay adorable! Thoughts? Would stockings be better? Not tryna freeze.

Feedback for realz? The leggings chop you off at a weird place for your lovely lovely ensemble. Just below the knee is a cute/adorable look, but it doesn't give you visual height. It chops you. (People use that phrase as if an evil witch comes out with a hatchet and Hansel and Gretel bite it) Want to wear leggings with the dress, wear ones that go to the ankle so there's no choppage. Then you'll build visual height and still be adorables (which you totally are). I like leggings with your outfit, but in a different lenght. Now go get him tiger! Grrrrr!
ReplyDeleteAw, poor Hansel and Gretel! Haha. But thank you, yes, I do want genuine feedback! I think I will go with stockings since all of my longer leggings are either TOO warm or really ratty and old. Rawr! =P
DeleteLove that boho white shirt! I agree that full length leggings will make you look taller too :)

My sister gave it to me because she never wore it--score :D Thanks for the feedback!
DeleteHooray for more focussy photos! Hooray for lace garments! :-D Hooray for purple leggings!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Karen about the legging length (I have the same problem with 3/4 length pants myself), but the colour you should totally go with. Purple is the best colour, always :-)
I definitely need more purple in my wardrobe.
DeleteHow about red legs for Valentine's Day? Red leggings? Red something?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea--I have dark red leggings! But hmm, maybe a brooch. . .
DeleteI'd go with a pair of black tights for Valentine's day. Or maybe red ones. They'll elongate your legs while those cropped leggings cut off the leg line. I really like the cool mix of lace in this outfit though! And the 50mm lens looks great! I love mine!
ReplyDeleteI'm still getting the hang of the new lens, but so far I really like it! Thank you!
DeleteI LOVE the layers in this look a lot, Sonya! (and cookies, you got me there.) The purple actually is so unexpected and I like it. Though black tights and some boots would look really cute too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura! Black tights seems to be the general consensus, although maybe with a pop of red somewhere :)
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI love the two tops layered it is just perfect! I guess long tights would make it fancier if you need to do that. I do like the pop of colour from the leggings though.

You and me both! Yeah, I might even wear heels! (Haha, no)
DeleteIf I were to pick something to go with the upper part of your outfit, it would definitely be tights rather than those leggings. Karen Box makes a good point about the whole chopping effect.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures look noticeably different from the other ones in terms of photo quality! I take it you used the lens for them? (the new one) Or maybe I'm going crazy?
What kind of camera do you use? I may have asked this before, my apologies.
I really want to save up to get a better camera. I use a point and shoot and never thought that I would want to go beyond that, but it's like HOLY COW the quality is a lot different.
Everyone agrees! Tights it is. These were with the new lens, yes, and I use a Canon Rebel t3i (I think). The quality is definitely hugely different in some basic ways, like megapixels blah blah blah, but sometimes I miss using a point-and-shoot just 'cause it's so much easier. I'm gonna complain about this more in my next post, haha
DeletePersonally I am a stockings kind of gal, but I hate telling people what they should or shouldn't wear. I think these leggings suit your style and stay true to YOU, which is the most important thing when it comes to anything, including fashion. Also congrats on the new lens :D I know nothing about photography, really, but the photos look great so by that logic, it must be working!
ReplyDeleteYes! Thank you <3
