Bright & Early

diy no-sew halter dress with purple rosettes - OOTD 1/19/2014

Wind and direct sunlight = Sonya is pale in pictures. Actually, the wind has nothing to do with it. But it was windy, I can tell you that. What I can't tell you is how clever I feel after rigging this skirt into a dress! One long scarf, three rosette pins, and voila! Sure, it bunches a little awkwardly, but I think that's because this particular skirt has buttons down the side. Although it occurs to me now that I could have rotated the buttons to the front or the back. Oh well. Anyway, the reason I'm so pleased is that my method would work with any long skirt, and I like being able to wear things multiple ways.

If you have any desire to replicate this, I'm sure you can figure it out from the above photo.

  1. Your creativity... goodness! I have tried turning long skirts into dresses but it never quite works out. This is lovely, though. That lilac color is to die for.

    1. Haha, thank you! I dunno if I'd feel comfortable wearing this out and about, but it was a satisfying experiment.

  2. Skirts as shirts always looked terrible on me! You pull it off so well! I didn't know it was a skirt until I started reading the post. It's awesome that you came up with this unique way of wearing it.

  5. This looks *amazing*! I'm so impressed by your sartorial MacGyvering :-)

The only really long skirt I have (that isn't attached to my wedding dress, hah!) already has shirring at the waist, so it's kind of halfway there already...maybe I should dig it out; it's summer here after all!
