Athletic Accesories

embellished plum cashmere vest, white lace button-down shirt, blue midi skirt

I'm going to wear this while watching high school basketball. Tonight's event is one of the hyped-up annual games, and last year it was really exciting, so I have great hopes! My only worry is that this color combination will turn out to match the rival school...

I'm not naturally inclined toward sports in either ability or interest, but I like rooting for my alma mater's team and watching my sister do gymnastics in a cute uniform. (However, it does really annoy me that the cheerleaders only turn out for the boys' teams.) During the previous season I discovered that I find basketball quite entertaining, which was a fun surprise. As a bonus, there are several attractive coaches, one of whom is such a prince that my mom calls him Coach Handsome. Occasionally the players are eye candy as well, because inexplicably some high school boys have six visible tattoos and look like they're almost 30. (Not that the tattoos are what's attractive, since teenagers with ink haven't always made the best design choices. But I'm one to talk, since I got my tattoo a couple of months after turning 18.)

vintage penny-farthing bicycle brooch

This brooch was a gift from Marisa Noelle. I did a Google search for "old time bicycle", and Wikipedia told me that these big-wheeled ones are called "penny-farthings". Here's the reason why:

That's an old British penny next to a farthing. Makes cents now, doesn't it? (Ha! I am astonishingly hilarious.) When I saw this, I was like, "Ooooohhh!"

You may have noticed that I switched to having my shirt tucked in, and I settled on that. But I would like feedback. Which do y'all think looks better?

  1. Update: I DID ACCIDENTALLY WEAR THE OTHER TEAM'S COLORS. They were purple and white.

  2. That sweater vest is all kinds of rad and I love that you paired it with sheer florals <3

  4. Love the look - it pleases me on a deep, fundamental level that your makeup colours match your outfit :-) I like contrast too, but sometimes it's nice to just match!

Shirt in is definitely cuter. Every time I see penny farthings I can't help but think that going over the handlebars must have been ridiculously easy.... ;-)

    1. Me too! I love matching. It makes everything feel complete.

I think I would be too scared to try riding one of those :3 But I eventually mastered the unicycle in 6th grade, so who knows. . .

  5. I vote for shirt tucked in as well! It accentuates your figure!
Also, I really dig the sewed in thing on the top. Did you do it yourself?

    1. That was exactly my reasoning! And yes, I did do it myself :)

  6. Hah, I love the line about 18 yr olds not making the best inking choices. SO many dudes with those stupid tribal tatoos, just because it was the hot thing at the time. I know I thought about getting a tatoo when I turned 18 but I was a lifegaurd and you cant go in chlorine for two weeks so it sorta didn't work. Thats probably good, I still haven't been able to think of anything awesme to have on my body for the rest of my life.
And yum yeah, totally agree with everyone, I like it tucked in. And have fun at the game tonite!

    1. Oh goodness, yes, tribal tattoos. Reminds me of the line from It's Always Sunny where Dennis asks Mac, "So, what tribe do you belong to?" Perfect.

  8. So really, the BIG question here is, did you tuck, or untuck?

And did you applique the design on your wool jumper? This wool-fiend wishes to know.

    1. I tucked, and yes! It used to be the most wonderful cashmere sweater in the world, but then I shrunk it in the wash. After that, I chopped off the sleeves and added the embellishment.

  9. Personally I like it better tucked, but I have a feeling it's just because I'm a slob! Cute outfit though!

    1. That seems to be the consensus! (Tucked, not that you're a slob.) Thank you :)
