Rosy Wings

blue lace-print halter dress, pink belt with sparkly butterfly buckle

I wore this belt because of the little girl I've been babysitting, who is a big fan of butterflies and sparkles. Whenever we walk down the street or play in the garden, we'll spot a Cabbage White or a Monarch dancing through the flowers. My small friend gets excited, although she is frustrated by how quickly they disappear. "Butterflies are scared about us," is her solemn comment.

This dress was perfect for lazing around in the sun at Dolores Park, a prime people-watching spot in San Francisco. I spent a couple of hours there with my cousin, kicking back and catching up. While riding the train home from the city, I finished A Moveable Feast, the first full Hemingway book that I've read. His writing is sparse but romantic. "Sparse but romantic" might also be a fitting description for a lace-printed halter dress with a short hem. I love the juxtaposition of Grandmother's doilies and the modish mini.

I filched these flip-flops from my sister. I might need to find a pair of my own before I wear hers to death...

  1. You know when you take that sun pattern paper and place it outside to develop with leaves and grass and other special bits that you collect and it turns color - that's exactly what your dress reminds me of - only with lace. Your dress looks like a beautiful solar print. They're very simple and easy to create, but to make something spectacular, you have to think it out and put a lot of planning into it. You're never 100% certain what will develop with the sun.

    1. EXACTLY! My mom and I thought of the same thing. I really wonder how they made this fabric...

  2. The pattern on that dress is indeed very lovely! I also like the playful touch with the belt.
I have much bigger feet than my sister... we can't wear each other's shoes! It would be awesome, though.

    1. Hehe, thanks :) My sister has bigger feet than me so I can't wear her regular shoes, but the flip flops work fine.
