Northwest Lemonade

cold strawberry lemonade, Japanese wave pattern dress

This was not just a pose, and my drink was not just a prop. Today's temperature highs were in the 90s (Fahrenheit, of course). Fizzy water with lemon essence, apple syrup, and whole frozen strawberries: a cool savior.

Anyway, tonight I'm boarding a train to Portland, Oregon. It won't be my first experience heading to that city, nor traveling on the tracks, nor traveling alone. But it will be my first time doing all of those things at once. I don't know if the nerves are from excitement or the coffee I drank earlier, but I'm trembling as I type.

My mom's best friend's family lives in Portland. I'm used to visiting in winter rather than spring; most years we drive up there for Christmas or New Year's Eve. This solo trip is just for the heck of it. I guess it's a vacation, although I'm going to work while I'm there. However, I'm not bringing the camera--one less sensitive, expensive device to take on Amtrak--so I'll have to get creative about blog content. Stay tuned...

  7. OMG I want that drink :-O It looks A-MA-ZING.

Enjoy your trip! :-) I love traveling, even if it does give you nerves sometimes. In June I have to go to Sharjah,UAE by myself to give a presentation at a conference that may decide my career future. So, kinda nervous :-P But I am looking forward to the trip!

    2. I have been wrestling with this a bit (see that post about makeup and academia not really going hand in hand), but since my whole PhD is about red things, I usually have a hard time resisting wearing a bright, classic red lip People do usually come up and ask me afterwards (usually the male students, for some reason) if the lipstick has the same molecules in it - and I can say yes, it does :-) It's not often you can wear your PhD, LOL!

  9. Have fun on your trip! I've never been to Portland, but I do like Oregon!
I am still a big fan of that dress. The pattern is mesmerizing.
Also, I am dying in near 70 degree weather up here in Alaska. I can't even imagine 90 right now.
