An Old Salt

navy blue and red striped sweater, powder blue midi skirt

The bottoms of my shoes are very picturesque, no? (Kidding.) I selected my bulkiest, most boat-shaped pair, because I feel nautical today. It's the result of wearing sailor stripes (sort of) and sharing a color scheme with Popeye. I can't run off to sea, so I settled for riding patio furniture--as opposed to standing unsteadily on the deck of a plucky vessel, plunging through the Pacific Ocean's tumultuous waves. I'm not tryna get scurvy, is what I'm saying. I would rather cherish a sense of small adventure, and watch Pirates of the Caribbean while munching on hardtack.

Part of fashion's appeal is the way an outfit can spark my imagination, triggering a myriad of associations and letting me moonlight in another existence. I'll never be a pirate wench on the high seas, but some horizontal lines and two primary colors are all it takes to catapult me into a swashbuckling fantasy. My rum-swigging stay on a rugged ship may be brief and immaterial, but that's enough to liven things up. Now, where's my parrot?

Seriously, where's Polly?

  1. Oooh, your teak chairs have weathered so nicely. They have such a beautiful patina on them. Feeling nautical is fun, though I steer clear of the hardtack. None for me thanks.

    1. I'll tell the chairs that you said so! And give your hardtack to some ducks =P

  2. Love this look! :-D Nautical themes are some of my favoruties in fashion (except for kids' sailor suits perhaps). The lipstick is also total win!

One of my favourite memories is crashing through a stormy night on the Pacific Ocean, on the deck of a plucky boat, fighting with the sails and watching plankton phosphoresce a glittering green on each spray of water that came over us. :-)

    1. Thank you! That sounds like a very grand night--although a little scary too.

  3. The commentary today was especially fun. Since the patio is now a yacht, I suppose it's going to get a name. :-)
