GlamST Meow

GlamST is a virtual makeup counter where you get to "sample" products by "applying" them to a picture of your face. I first heard of the website on Unpack the Box, and then they popped up on BrandBacker. I thought, "What the heck, I'll give it a whirl." (To be clear, I didn't get paid for this. Alas.) My quick review is that I would recommend GlamST to bored makeup-lovers who have the patience to deal with a semi-glitchy website, and/or people who have always secretly loved Doll Divine. Personally I would not use this as a shopping tool.

As far as I could tell, GlamST does not have an "About" page on their actual website, but on BrandBacker they described their goals and origin: "GlamST aims to create a positive community of women that feel comfortable with their choices and who they are. Try virtual looks, try products you would have never dare to try, find your real beauty, help other find the best looks, have fun and receive and give advice! [...] We are two women co-founders, telematics engineers from Uruguay, South America. As women engineers in a male-dominated world, we decided to bring innovation to a problem women face everyday: choosing make that's best for you and spotting the latest trends." I can get behind that. Lady entrepreneurs are cool.

My main complaint about GlamST is that the website was reluctant to let me create an account. I had to try three times before it worked. Once that was finally resolved, I kept being spontaneously logged out for no apparent reason. As for the rest of the site's functionality, the main interface is fairly intuitive, but the social sections (e.g. "Looks") are sluggish and confusing to navigate. I assume that these problems will be worked out soon--a new website isn't going to be perfect.

On the bright side, playing with virtual makeup was fun! Here is a dramatic witchy look that I put together:

Before and after, obviously. I also did a more subtle makeover. But this is my pièce de résistance:

Willie is a pretty kitty.

  2. Willie is fabulous! ^^
I love the witchy look, that purple lipstick is really nice. Unfortunately, I can't get GlamST working, for some reason the site just logs me off all the time...

  4. Toria also had the same log out experiences you did. That sounds really annoying.

To be honest, I think applying makeup to animals is the best useage. Thus far, Willie is the most glamours GlamSt face I've seen. He's also very handsome too.

  5. Haha this reminds me of those makeover games (and possibly websites if I remember correctly?) from back in the day. They also had hair styles and such! Oh memories. Looks like nostalgic fun to me!
