My grandma inexplicably has a subscription to the schmanciest fashion glossy I've ever flipped through: C, which is self-described as "The Golden State's Lifestyle Magazine". It's the kind of high-society publication that Lily van der Woodsen (of Gossip Girl) would read. I think taking a look at LvdW will give you a sense of what that means:
I spend a stupid amount of time 'shopping in the bokeh background. For the sake of practice, I guess? Anyway, the other day I pored over a bridal edition of C, snipping out jewels and trees. I wanted to highlight something by juxtaposing these two facets (pun intended) of nature, but I'm not sure what.

I love sapphires :-) They are on both my engagement and wedding rings! Diamonds are nice too, but only as an accompaniment to a coloured stone, for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy mom feels the same way, so I will probably inherit a ring like that! (Her original wedding ring got worn out.) I like diamonds but they are a bit boring.
DeleteI don't entirely know who she is, but LvdW has perfected the B-face. If only I could do that.
ReplyDeleteThere is something fashion-magazine-y about your gemstones and nature collages. Luxury brands seem to artfully juxtapose unlike things for advertising. Like jauntily playing croquet in high heels when it's an advertisement for a watch. Still, the glossies are always the best to thumb through and wistfully gawk at. Perhaps you have found your true calling?
I should be so lucky, for magazine flipping to be my true calling! ;)
DeleteI was thinking advertising and marketing. You have an eye for creating captivating visuals.
DeleteIf you can land a job flipping through magazines though that would be pretty boss.
OH, that's probably more feasible! Thank you :) But now I'm sighing for the career where I can get a pedicure while I work...
DeleteLove the photoshopped background! And I think a recent photo of Grandma would be helpful to highlight the irony of her subscription. I can't think of anyone who is less interested in fashion.
ReplyDeleteHehe, you're right as usual, Mom :)
