Milk Chocolate Eyes
My mother looked over my shoulder at these photos and said, "You know what that looks like to me? Campus coed. Campus cutie." Guess who wants me to go back to school? I've been thinking 'bout it. Lots of anxiety. Mom tells me, "Just take one class." Maybe if I don't have to build the grand future, plan the possible cumulative goal(s), then I can do it.

That is a very cute outfit! I love the sweater, it looks so cozy. I started college off by only taking one or two classes at a time, and eventually I built my way up to being a full time student, which I think made the transition into college a little easier. Sometimes you just have to ease into things slowly!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is pretty cozy. And thanks for the encouragement as well.
DeleteI agree with Sarah! I started out by taking two classes, and I did so well that I took 3 classes the next semester! Go at your own pace. Only a small percentage of people actually finish their degree in the four year plan. I'm beginning year 3 soon and I am just now a sophomore!
ReplyDeleteThanks Danielle <3
Delete~cheers you on!~ Your mother is very wise. And you also look like a total campus cutie.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I will tell her you said that! It's true. And thank you!
DeleteThink of Uni this way - a marvellous place where you get to study all the random things that interest and delight you, not just whatever they make you take like at school :-) I have a proper, formal degree in Egyptology. I can read hieroglyphs, and had the opportunity to do so, standing in the depths of a partly forgotten temple in Egypt. Am I working as an Egyptologist? No. But I had the best time in the world studying what I loved - and I could become an Egyptologist if I wanted. Bonus! That's the magic of university. Go and learn what you love, Sonya, at your own pace, and making your university a tiny bit more fashionable, just by being you :-).
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome, Syl! I hope you write a post about ancient Egyptian beauty products!
DeleteSeconded.
DeleteYou look GREAT! I think taking one class is a good re-entry strategy. Helps you test the waters and see if you're ready. No great loss if you're not. Why not take a class in a subject that gives you pleasure? Drawing, design, photography etc.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I should try! Thanks, Aunt Nancy.
DeleteThis is random but your eyebrows are ON POINT! Wow, they look amazing actually. Anyway, I think that taking one class is a good idea. In fact, since summer is coming up I would recommend taking one, or even two. I once took 6 summer classes, which is not advised and I had to get special permission but I did it. Summer classes are a good, good transition.
ReplyDeleteWOW, 6 summer classes?! Color me impressed. And thank you, Alissa! That's my first eyebrow compliment ever :D
DeleteOoh cute outfit!! :D
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to take online classes? I took one when I thought I wanted to go back.
Thank you! Yes, online classes are a possibility. I've tried taking them before without much success, but we'll see.. .
DeleteHaha I love how moms code everything. At the end of the day, I am a firm believer that school is not for everyone. Some people thrive, while for others all it does is cause a heapload of misery and anxiety. Some of the most brilliant, inspiring people I know never did higher education. It's your choice in the end. I hope thinking about going back hasn't been too stressful in and of itself.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, your getting so good at makeup. Jealous!
My mom read this post and then insisted that she didn't mean anything by the comment, haha. I think I am going to take one class and see how it goes. Considering the issue has been pretty stressful, but the support from y'all really helps.
Delete& Thank you!
it sounds like your mom has a really sweet way of encouraging you. i kind of forget that exists because right now my hubs is like "look for jobs today, stop putting it off" haha (which is what I need/want from him) but i told him i would after i finished my hw & clearly i got distracted on hw. also, i dont know if this would be a good option for me, but we have a community college here that is 100% online, which sounds shitty to me, but it's made to be online so it's much less busy work than online classes i've taken in at-person universities in the past. i took a lot through it when i moved to spain to not get behind on my majors.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is definitely a treasure. As is your husband, although probably in a different way! Haha. I haven't liked online classes in the past but it might be better when it's optimized for that experience.
Deleteyes! your mom sounds like she might be a bit like my mom : ). Oh hey, one tip I just thought of- take a class at a community college so if you ever decided to transfer to a university, it wouldn't count toward your grades there. in case you find that class isn't at all for you & dont do well, then it doesnt hurt you, or on the flipside, you dont have the pressure for a great & could end up getting an awesome grade anyway, but could just focus on enjoying it. also, i actually hate online classes haha, but i'm a highly auditory learner, but i do know some ppl who have enjoyed online, esp at schools where you can go your own pace.
DeleteI love moms <3 That's a good idea! I learn a lot from lectures, and that's one thing I dislike about online classes: not getting to sit back and listen to a talk, and take notes. Maybe it's just 'cause I'm so accustomed to that format.
