Eight Feet Fun

navy blue and red striped sweater with jeans

I wore this outfit on a date with my gentleman friend, although before leaving I changed shoes and added a sweater. Here's what I looked like while riding the train into San Francisco:

For the purposes of this blog, I'm going to call him X. He jokingly told me to keep referring to him as "my ex", but that feels weird to actually do. Just using the letter makes him sound like a spy! (His response when I mentioned that: "I am a spy.")

We went to Octopalooza at Aquarium of the Bay, where we learned about the giant Pacific octopus and looked at a bunch of cool fish, which was enthralling. Interesting tidbit: octopoose frequently change color and are thought to communicate with each other by doing so--but they see in black and white. Obviously that brings up a lot of questions, and from what the biologist said, it sounds like answers are still being uncovered.

After our oceanish activity, X and I had dinner at an Italian restaurant in North Beach. X lived in Milan (I think) for a while, so he translated words for me. Example: I didn't know that "buratta" is a kind of cheese. Possibly you don't need to speak Italian to be aware of that, but whatever. He also pronounced things correctly when he ordered, so I was impressed.

I feel pretty optimistic about this relationship redo. It hasn't been completely smooth sailing, but we're communicating more thoughtfully than we have in the past. I certainly feel warm 'n' fuzzy about him. By the way, Aquarium of the Bay has river otters, and boy were they ever fuzzy! So cute, ohmygoodnessgracious.

That one isn't fuzzy because he's been in the water. But still. Cute.

shadowy blue and gold eye makeup

Doing different colors together on one eyelid is hard. Comfortingly, once I asked X if my makeup was smudged, and after closely examining my eyes, he said he didn't know. Basically I can smear anything on there and at least one person won't be bothered. (That might be an exaggeration...)

  1. Trying to do multi-colored eye shadow has plagued me for years. It really is SO hard. I'm happy to hear you're optimistic about this relationship redo, though. I think second chances are 90% of the time a must, unless the initial bad thing was SO bad that it's unforgivable. Plus, it's always good to have an oceanic activity buddy :)

  2. My preferred cheat for doing two-tone eyeshadow across the lid is to make one of them a metallic shade. That way, you don't have to worry about muddiness or overblending and losing the colour so much cos you just get some metallic sparkle added to your other colour! Ta daaa!

Love the sweater - navy and true red is such a great combination :-)

  5. I really dig the Octopalooza outfit! I had no idea that they could only see in black and white. I always thought it would be interesting if people communicated using a more complex system involving changing skin textures in addition to body language, but I guess we are the way we are for a good reason? Hah! We communicate through the internet which is already pretty crazy!

    1. Isn't that cool? I'm gonna try to get him to agree to a mini road trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is huge and awesome :D
