That Darn New Machine
Recently I've been slogging through reading The Soul of a New Machine (reminiscent of Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs). About halfway into TSoaNM I was still under the impression that it was a very weird novel, but in fact the book is nonfiction; it "chronicles the experiences of a computer engineering team racing to design a next-generation computer at a blistering pace under tremendous pressure." (Thanks, Wikipedia. You always have my back with the summaries.) None of this has anything to do with fashion, except that I took a screenshot of a passage describing what computer engineers wore to work in the late 1970s:

Such a fun post! In Austin, all the computer guys wear cargo shorts and polo shirts, my husband included. You can spot them in packs when you go out for lunch. :P
