Sunny Stripes

blue circle scarf, white and yellow striped sundress

I know it's a bit ridiculous to wear a scarf with a sleeveless dress. Think of it as a large, soft necklace! Or just consider me silly--that's fine too.

I'm proud of myself for not spilling anything today. In fact, it's amazing that I've had a yellow-and-white dress for a matter of months without splashing coffee in my lap, or dousing my front with salad dressing. Typically I try to avoid pale clothes because their ruination is inevitable. I can't wear a garment that's been blemished by even the slightest stain--I don't know what it is, but stains drive me nuts. Thank goodness for thrift stores, right? Secondhand shopping allows for insensible purchases that don't break the bank. When a clumsy mishap eventually condemns this dress, it won't be a tragedy.

My dad took me out for lunch at a Peruvian cafe/deli called El Mono, which is Spanish for "the monkey". Excursions with him are always a treat, no matter where we're headed. The restaurant itself was unremarkable (except for the cute name!) but hanging out with my dad automatically peps me up.

PS: I waited until early evening to take these photos, hoping for flattering shadows, but maybe a couple more hours would have been advisable. Google told me when to expect sunset, but I still felt paranoid that I'd run out of daylight...

  1. You look so cute! I love the combination of the pale dress with the darker moody scarf. I typically wait until 6 or 630 these days to go take pictures-- just watch the light out the window and look for long shadows. That's how I know it's time. :)

    1. Thank you! And I will take that advice, or at least try to--you always seem to catch golden hour ~

  2. Eeeee this dress is too precious (I think you've worn it on here before, maybe? And I loved it the first time!). With your pixie cut, you look like someone straight out of a storybook. And props for not spilling anything all over yourself, like I do every day of my life.

    1. Yeah, I've definitely worn it before. Thank you! I have a genetic predisposition toward spilling because my mom does it constantly =P

  3. Lovely photographs! I've yet to try taking pictures in the evening, but I really want to. I read somewhere that 5pm is a standard "golden hour" for photography.

    1. That sounds about right, give or take a few hours. Thank you!

  4. So pretty :-) You make me feel summery on this decidedly not summery day (it's pissing down outside)! I, too, avoid pale clothes a lot of the time. Partly it's because I'm a rogue (;-)), partly because I too spill things, and partly because I'm so pale I worry I'll disappear if I wear things that are too pale!

  5. I wear scarves with tank tops all the time! A "large, soft necklace" is a good way to think of it. That's what I'll tell everyone, anyway...

  6. Pretty dress! I feel like anytime I put on a white piece of clothing it automatically attracts stains.. Almost like a magnet. I sometimes get afraid of running out of daylight too, but I have been pleasantly surprised with how my photos turn out when I keep on shooting into dusk. There's such a neat lighting effect when the sun is setting/just set!
