Denim Blues

kerchief-style headband, short-sleeved silk shirt knotted at the waist, denim shorts

I am the queen of squinting. The problem is that I really hate sunglasses. They make the bridge of my nose feel weird! I get this itchy, ticklish sensation. My vision will go eventually--both of my parents wear glasses--and then I'll be in trouble. My mom's astigmatism makes it difficult for her to wear contact lenses, and I feel like I've probably inherited her misshapen eyeballs. Yes, that is sheer, unverified pessimism.

These shorts have stayed in my closet for quite a while, considering that they don't fit me particularly well. They bunch up in a way that's both uncomfortable and kinda visually awkward. I guess it's time for me to start seeking the "mom jeans" version of Daisy Dukes! After all, I'm long overdue for a thorough browse at my favorite secondhand store, a vast place that is aptly named Thrift Town. I stopped by recently with my boyfriend to pick up running clothes--which I abandoned at his apartment, oops--but that was a speedy visit. I think he would get bored if I dug in properly.

A lightweight silk shirt is perfect for hot days; it's the closest you can get to wearing a breeze. Pale colors keep the sun from settling on you (although there is some opposition to that notion) and a headband keeps your hair out of your face. (Hair-in-face is one of my enduring woes.) Just add iced coffee and you've got the perfect summer's day! Never mind about why summer weather has arrived before June... Does this happen every year?!

Apparently I don't believe in ironing. Ain't nobody got time for that, you feel me?

  1. A) You rock in this outfit B) I just recently got to where I would wear sunglasses. I was tired of squinting but also have a oddly small face for sunglasses so they would just fall off anyway and then I would end up squinting. Such #firstworldproblems

  2. Boyfriend? Yay!

I actually like the scrunch of these shorts. It's symmetrical in a way that emphasizes your belly and reminds me of those ancient goddess sculptures.

  4. I don't know why summer arrived so quickly! It was 90 degrees here today! That shirt looks so comfy, most of mine seem to be tight and that just makes me even hotter. Time for a shopping trip I think! ;)

  5. Ironing is the enemy of fun. Nuff said. :-P I avoid it, or make the paladin do it (he's the only one that complains about wrinkles).

Props to pale and gorgeous you for rocking those shorts! You look fabulous! :-D Four years of ballet later (that have given me an actual sixpack) and I still can't wrap my head around the way my thighs look in #tinyshorts *sigh* Body issues for the...fail? You are my hero :-)

  6. I say I don't own shorts, but that's not entirely true, I had to buy a pair for a car wash and I only wore them that one time. I envy your short wearing ability. I am not comfortable with feeling so exposed and knee length shorts look ridiculous. You however, are able to rock the look.

  7. It's okay... I don't iron anything unless I absolutely HAVE to! Hah!
Also - I notice that everytime I wear shorts, they have a tendency to ride up in the middle between my upper thighs. It's so annoying and I end up getting distracted by it.
Also - I have astigmatism and my eyesight is so bad that at my last visit - they were telling me about the warning signs for retinal tearing since my eyes are so elongated.
