Revisiting Chartes

Ombre Pink Tangerine Cardigan, Chartres - OOTD 1/2/2014

A few years ago, I went on a mini-tour of Europe with my eurythmy troupe. One of the places we visited was the town of Chartres, in France, which houses a famously glorious cathedral by the same name. Although I had been made vehemently anti-Church by two years of mandatory religion class at my Catholic high school, it was still a very moving experience to explore this ancient, sacred place.

Anyway, I'm no Photoshop expert, but I had fun incorporating vintage pictures of Chartres into some of today's outfit photos. (Background sources: 1 & 2.) My inspiration was this perfume:

(Please excuse the messy manicure.) My troupe-mates and I went shopping in the town while we were there, and I bought this eau de toilette. It was only 15 euros or so; not fancy. But I felt really special about having perfume from France. I wore it today because the bottle sort of matched my neon sunset nail polish. In case you're curious: when first applied, this fragrance smells like frankincense, but then it fades to kind of a Diet Dr Pepper scent. Which sounds weird, but I like it.

I stayed in California for a few of the photos:

  1. I love the photoshopped backgrounds! That second picture is especially pretty with the way it matches. :)
I still haven't been out of the United States, but I hope to go out of the country someday!

    1. Oh my gosh, I will! What a lovely compliment. Honestly though, 90% of my wardrobe was thrifted, gifted, or handed down, so I would probably rather just give pieces away. Sharin' the love, haha.

    1. Thank you! Of course I can see all the flaws, haha, but I need to remember that other people won't be as harsh.

  5. Love the photoshopped imaged, and there's something to be said for "feeling" the history of Europe. In comparison, nothing is old in the US. To know that you are walking, standing, touching the same ground that Napoleon, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, the list goes on and on...well, nothing can explain that experience.

    1. So true! There are a few truly ancient human creations in the US, like some of the ruins in the Southwest, but Europe has so many well-preserved old glories. I definitely hope to go back there in person some day.

  6. Nice! I was going to make a trip to Chartres the last time I was in Paris, but I didn't manage to get out of the capital (not that Paris is anything to complain about!). Next time!

Love the ruched bodice on the dress! :-)

  8. Photoshopped pictures are really interesting. I especially love the one with you holding the perfume bottle, even with the messy manicure (which isn't that messy) it could be an ad.

I never visited that particular cathedral, but I saw plenty while I traveled Europe and your pictures sent me right back there. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hahaha, thank you! It looked messier in person, if you can believe that. I think I'm slowly improving at painting my nails, but it's hard to tell.

  9. I have a light body splash, from Bath & Body Works, that makes me smell like fresh kettle corn. Not an entirely bad thing! =)

  10. I love visiting those old cathedrals too even though I'm very non-religious. They're just so gorgeous and the history is amazing. I really like these photoshopped backgrounds! Also your pink cardigan is super cute with that plaid dress.

  11. I wouldn't mind smelling like Diet Dr.Pepper...it's better than smelling like allergies (aka. what I call super strong perfumes).

    Sincerely,
