Pieces Of Purple

Fuchsia Cardigan, Eggplant Rose Ruffle Tank Top, Periwinkle Floral Maxi Skirt, Bright Red Lipstick - OOTD 12/28/2013

Doesn't my skirt look glamorous? And yet I suppose the sweeping effect is ruined by my chunky Keen Mary Janes. I should have worn something more elegant, but Keen shoes are great when you need utility with a femme touch, which is basically what I look for. Please note that I am praising and linking to Keen skeptically, because my takeaway from their "Corporate Social Responsibility" page was that they're only as good as they have to be--which is not very. Anyway, my mom gave me these shoes and I like them.

I hope y'all don't get annoyed by my harping on ethical manufacturing. I know it's kind of depressing, but I also feel like I have to say something. Moving on...

Thanks to my aunt Nancy Bea Miller for giving me this blouse + skirt!

That building isn't actually tilted. I adjusted the tripod not-very-carefully, so it looks like I'm in a deleted scene from The Wizard of Oz.

I tried a thicker eyebrow today. Um, I like how it looks from farther off?

Speaking of makeup, I've been greatly enjoying The Painted Rogue. If you're into beauty blogs/makeup reviews, you should check it out--especially if you enjoy fantasy in any capacity. Maybe you play Skyrim, or you read a lot of Tamora Pierce books (like me), or you're willing to watch 3-hour movies in the name of hobbitry (unlike me). Or maybe you just think the "rogue"/"rouge" play on words is cute. I don't want to give away much about the blog, but I will tell you that it always makes me laugh!

  4. I love this outfit! You look totally cute! (I feel like I use that compliment too much... but it's true!)
The last time I sat through 3 hours of Hobbitness (late last year), my butt and lower back was sore the next day from sitting for so long. I also like the idea of being able to pause a long movie if I need to. Not sure if I will make it to see the second one this time... oh we shall see.

    1. I never get tired of being called cute, haha! I would wait for it to come out on DVD, or even Netflix.

  5. Thank you so much for mentioning me! I'm so flattered, and I'm glad I make you laugh!

OMG TAMORA PIERCE - I lived on her books when I was a teenager, and I *still* look out in the bookstores for new ones :-) Who was your favourite character? I always had a soft spot for Daine, althought the Winding Circle series was my favourite.

Also, fabulous skirt. Purple has been my favourite colour for as long as I can remember. It's also an excellent way for any rogue to inject colour into their wardrobe, without clashing with the shadows :-)

    1. Your blog is awesome, so I wanted to give you a shoutout!

My favorite Tamora Pierce 'verse is definitely the Winding Circle one, and my favorite of those books is The Will of the Empress. But I will forever love Alanna in a special way, because she was the first Tamora Pierce heroine I met.

And thank you! It can dangerous to clash with the shadows. . .

    2. Hehe, the I've been back into the post I just put up on my blog about 6 times to fix different one letter typos I missed the first 8 proof-reads around. There are probably still some there... *twitch*

    3. Hahaha, I do that too! If it helps, I didn't notice any typos when I read your post.

  6. Omygosh, high five on the tamora pierce mention, I loved her books in jr high and they're still a bit of a guilty read for me. Wild magic was the first I got my hands on and that series aling with the lioness will always be my fav. (and since we're talking about books, have you read any of robin mckinnley's books? She does such perect heroines, I think you'd really enjoy those books.). Also, I enjoy the whole ethical clothing thing. I'm trying to either buy local or support free trade companies but I've noticed a lot of companies are at least making efforts now. Hopefully if everyone keeps talking about and demanding change, it might slowly get better.

    1. Robin McKinley sounds really familiar--I'll have to look her up and see if I recognize any book titles! I love me some heroines. I still read YA fiction and really enjoy it, haha.

I've also noticed that some big companies are trying to do better, which is awesome! H&M is an example of that. I think you're right that things will slowly improve.
