Sunday Morning

baby blue cardigan, silky black floral tank top, handmade house dress

My ex and I sort of got back together. So I need a different label for him, but I'm not sure yet if "boyfriend" is appropriate. The details haven't been hashed out--the rules of our renewed relationship, if you will.

We spent most of Sunday with each other. He took me to breakfast at Sam's Log Cabin, which is a delectably quaint little establishment:

The building was put together from a prefab Sears & Roebuck kit in the 1930s. It doesn't get more picturesque than that!

After brunch, he drove us to his place in San Francisco. We hung around for several hours, talking about tech marketing and watching Léon: The Professional:

'90s thriller featuring a very young Natalie Portman and a regular-aged Jean Reno. Good movie. We ended up having an argument about the ending. Well, at least I was having an argument. That's ones of the downside of being competitive and high-strung, I guess. He apologized even though there wasn't anything he needed to be sorry about.

A few of our past disagreements have centered on film. The biggest fight we ever had was about a certain famous director who's a child abuser--no, not that one, the other one. (But I'd like to see Woody Allen shot as well. Sorry, but I'm not sorry.) We also argued about Django Unchained. I dunno.

I remember good things too, and more vividly. There's a composite memory that I come back to again and again, of making coffee for him in the morning after staying over at his apartment. He has one of these contraptions:

I had to be shown how to use that device a few times before I got the hang of it, because #blonde. I always thought the coffee was awful--much too strong and bitter for me. And his caffeine tolerance is way higher than mine.

I remember bringing a warm mug into the bedroom, where he was still half-asleep. I would sit on the edge of the bed, or get back in and snuggle up. He always smells so good. His signature scent used to be "Blue Sugar" cologne--it's heavenly. Anyway, I'm not sure how often I actually did that.

I wanted to write something more cohesive, but you'll have to make do with my nostalgic rehash of "Sunday Morning".

Billowing in the breeze... I wore this dress recently and Karen asked about it, which is why I grabbed it off the hanger this morning. But then I layered again, so it doesn't show you much. I did look through my archives to find the first appearance of the dress. Since I made this myself, it doesn't fit very well; I am inexperienced, impatient, and pattern-averse. It looks funny without stuff on top of it.

  1. Oh that little cabin is so quaint and darling!

I'm a bit high strung and competitive too - so I know these kinds of arguments all too well...hehe. It's also so lovely how a scent can bring you back to the sweetest kinds of memories :-).

These colors are so soft and pretty. Remind me of spring...which I cannot wait for!

    1. Ha, then we're in the same boat! Also I'm yearning for spring too. . .

  2. Thank you! And I know, right? I'm not sure exactly how the whole kit deal worked, but I love the concept! It's like Lincoln Logs!

  3. I like this outfit - it looks comfy, but also a bit vintage-sytlish. The kind of thing I only wish I could achieve with my clothes. There's a reason I didn't start a fashion blog, y'know :-P

Totally on board with the make coffee and snuggle back into bed concept. The wizard is a first class snuggler (he multiclassed ;-))

    1. I'm still hoping that you'll change your mind and start doing outfit posts for newbie dungeon-skulkers! But a rogue has to fly under the radar, I suppose.

      Snuggling is the bestest :)

  5. I hope things go well for you and Blue Sugar. You both sound like passionate creatures. May all your big fights be over film.

Your shift dress looks good layered and belted. It looks fine on it's own. There's something about it (pattern perhaps?) that reminds me of a 1930's depression-era house dress.

    1. You are the voice of reason <3 I looked up that style, and the shape is somewhat similar.

  6. Whatever you are using as a belt is fab! Is it really a belt or did it used to be a purse strap or something? That's kind of the feeling I'm getting and I like it!

    1. Your instincts are correct--it used to be a weird sort of goth-ish suspender thing on a miniskirt! Thank you!

  7. Beautiful layering! The bright teal pairs beautifully with the dark florals!

  8. Grrr, i know exactly who you're refering to. It competely pisses me off that there's so much support for him, I don't care how 'talented' he supposeably is, I refuse to watch any of his movies. I did sorta like django though, his little bit of dressage at the end on the house won me over. ( really un-up to date on the Woody Allen stuff though, from what I remember reading was the hospital staff said there was no abuse but both sides claims the others throwing mud. Did more about that ever come out?)

    1. Ugh, he makes me sick. I'm sure he's a good director, but it doesn't matter to me. & I've mostly steered clear of the Woody Allen stuff because it's so upsetting, but what I've read is quite damning.

I actually did like a lot about Django, but I also thought it was kinda presumptuous for Quentin Tarantino, a rich white guy, to make a movie about slavery =/

  9. I really think things go well for you and the ex/present/ish/boy. Honestly, if the worst thing you're arguing about is films, then I take that as a good sign. I find Paddy and I argue about music/films predominantly as well, and I'm fine with that because in a way it's endearing and sort of cute/quirky. In terms of the Woody Allen stuff, I'm so conflicted. I mean, I read his daughter's letter, and I generally ALWAYS side with the victim. But there's something that doesn't quite mesh. Idk how to explain! But anyway, what did you think of Django?

    1. I thought Django was very entertaining, too bloody for my tastes, and exploitative beyond belief. But that's Quentin Tarantino's shtick, so it's not like I was surprised. . .
